Our guides, Blue and Jim have a deep passion for the history of Burton upon Trent and have spent many hours researching and debating the finer points of Burton’s history.

Blue Yates is a guitarist and local historian with interests that began with brewing history. After the publication of a couple of research articles, that interest has grown to embrace medieval and other aspects of Burton’s fascinating history.

Jim Ellington is a teacher, private tutor and outdoors educator who similarly finds much interest in the local environment and history. His passion for acquring and sharing knowledge has flourished in developing BHT.

Located centrally in England, Burton lies at the crossroads of the River Trent and the ancient Rykneld Street, and dates as a settlement to Roman times.

Tour options currently available are:

A Brief History of Burton, a 3.5 mile, 2 hour guided walk through the centre of the town mixes the urban and rural (wear walking shoes!) and follows in the footsteps of Burtonians from the arrival of Saint Modwen, the establishment of the medieval abbey, the industrialisation of brewing in the town, through to more recent visits by artist L.S.Lowry and The Sex Pistols. We hope that our walk will stimulate the imagination of visitors and residents alike and as we make our way around the town we’ll never see our surroundings in the same way again!

The Accessible History of Burton, a 1 mile, 1 hour guided walk of Burton’s town centre, designed to suit people with low mobility.
